1959 Austin Healey 100/6 - Two-seater - Fully restored.

Well, cars just don’t get much better do they? The beautiful shape of the BN1, but tweaked slightly to give it mildly more muscular lines and the wheelbase lengthened slightly to streamline the body of the BN6, a lower and wider front grille, a bonnet scoop and a few other minor changes are all that’s evident from the outside of the car. Inside you have the 4 speed H pattern that we all know and love, no more backwards 3 speed manual, so a car that is easier to drive and more familiar to most and more like a modern classic. Still, the same comfortable driving position, way ahead of its time for the 50’s – fitting big humans in with space to spare unlike most!

 

Turn the key and push the starter button and the crisp and freshly rebuilt inline 6 sparks into life, with a sound as smooth as silk and a little bark around 2,000RPM, this car sounds like the pit straight at any classic 50’s race and it only gets better the more you drive / look at the car. Presenting perfectly after a full body off restoration, where nothing was left untouched, it drives as well, if not better than it looks. So exquisite is the drive, that I think you’d find it difficult to fault in any way. Even the factory optioned overdrive has been rebuilt and works instantly.

 

The car has had everything refreshed, every panel, bolt, washer, nut, bushing you name it. The engine has been fully rebuilt – Upgraded and rebored to 2.9L for more grunt like the 3000! Along with the gearbox, overdrive, differential, suspension, brakes and everything in-between. Add to that fresh paint, chrome work and a new interior it really is the full package. It drives so smoothly, pulls very well and sounds incredible. Even if you just opened the garage to look at it on a rainy day, you won’t be disappointed. Or if it takes your fancy, the hood and tonneau are both brand new and will look after you in the wet too if the mood takes you!

This car was originally sent to California as an LHD North American Export spec according to the heritage certificate. It was Colorado red over black, with a black interior, which I think is also a lovely combination – but the old English White just finishes it off! It was also a factory two-seater, being the more sought after of the variants. Being the 100/6 it is smoother and an easier drive, in reality this is about as sought after a spec as you’d find, the only things not in its favour are the half colour change and the fact it has had the RHD conversion, but that’s a bonus for us in the U.K!

 

Having been owned by a lovely local gent who has worked with classic sports cars all of his life, owning and running garages around the local area, his eye for detail and attention to the minutest of details shines through in the quality of this photographic restoration. With no stone left unturned it truly is a turn key car. One that we are very proud to offer to the market, as we know its new owner will be incredibly happy with it.

 

In the way that most cars shipped in from the USA of late have, its early history has been robbed of it by GDPR / customs. However, we have every invoice from its time in the U.K, where it was used for a while as it was, before falling into the hands of its current custodian, who decided it needed to be perfect once again, the results speak for themselves.

 

If you’re looking for a “Big Healey” of any description, this has to be worth a look. It presents fantastic value for money in the current market,  having a club valuation of £65,000.00 in 2018 (which surely would have risen since) and will stand the test of time, due to the quality of the restoration it has received. I don’t foresee a car this good sitting around long, so if you’re interested, don’t wait for spring to have sprung to pick up the phone…
